About Matthew Starey

I started cycling at the age of eight when I first went out with my Dad, and the local cycling club. I rode my first race, cyclo cross, at Crystal Palace at the age of ten and was hooked on a sport that I have enjoyed ever since. As a junior I was on the Great Britain Cyclo Cross team, then later as a senior I rode at the World Mountain Bike Championships and raced on the road nationally and internationally.

I began working in the cycle trade as a Saturday boy in Pearsons Cycles and later went on to work there full time. This was where I first learnt how to build wheels and I became the shop’s wheel builder and custom bike builder. Over the years I have worked in several shops in London as a mechanic and head mechanic. I was at Middleburn Components for 14 years where I designed and tested products. I am a fully qualified Cytech Technician and Campagnolo Certified.
